22nd August 2006: Sunday side grab draw as rain hits weekend |
|
Ley Hill's superb record
against Hawridge & Cholesbury remains intact after Saturday's
fixtures were washed out. On Sunday, Keith Strickland hit 98 runs
but Ley Hill's 243-6 was only enough to achieve a draw versus West
Wycombe. |
|
17th August 2006: Missing scorecards added |
|
Scorecards have now been
added for the weekend of 29/30th July. The highlight of the new
(attractively colour-coded) scorecards is the superb last-wicket
partnership that guided our Sunday side to victory over Redbourn. |
|
14th August 2006: Update on our all-conquering Under 12s |
|
The Under 12s have enjoyed continuing
success in the second half of the season, most recently soundly
defeating the Chiltern District Under 14 Girls. See the report
below, and the team newsletter for July. |
|
13th August 2006: Firsts sail past Downley as bounceback continues |
|
Ley Hill's Firsts staged a remarkable
recovery against Downley on Saturday, reaching their 250-run target
with six overs and six wickets to spare. There are three games left
in the season, our Firsts are just
six points from safety, and now have a real chance of survival.
Our Seconds and Thirds were less successful, although Ben Ford, Talib Hussain and Keith
Richardson all turned in excellent bowling performances. |
|
13th August 2006: Scorecards of 5th & 6th August online |
|
Sunday was the highlight of
last weekend, with Paul Green's men turning over Little Kingshill.
Our Seconds held out for a draw against high-fliers Hughenden
Valley, but our Firsts and Thirds suffered defeats at Knotty Green
and Penn Street. |
|
13th August 2006: Updated statistics (averages, top performances, league tables) |
|
The latest Ley Hill CC
league averages are headed up by two teenagers. Jake Wells leads the
batting averages, while Ben Ford has risen to the top of the bowling
table after two excellent recent performances. Recent additions to
the top performances list include Jake Wells, Kevin Phillips and Ben
Ford (with the bat) and Keith Richardson (with the ball). |
|
13th August 2006: Seconds set to compete in Knock-out Cup final |
|
For the first time in their history,
Ley Hill Seconds have reached the final of a cup competition.
Jumbo's boys are set to take on Lacey Green Seconds on Sunday
20th August at 2pm. The match will take place at Hawridge &
Cholesbury - make sure you are there to cheer on our team. |
|
13th August 2006: Thank you to a very small Aussie club |
|
Ley Hill CC recently received a special 20 cent coin, with the Queen on one side and Don Bradman on the other, mailed to us by a small cricket club in Sydney. (The instructions: call "Queen" or "King"...) Many thanks to the mystery club for the gift. |
|
3rd August 2006: Firsts win at last! |
|
Our Firsts registered their first
league victory of the season on Saturday, defeating fellow
strugglers Lacey Green. Craig Ottaway and Will Holman broke the
club's eighth-wicket partnership record, and a strong team
performance in the field sealed the victory. Our Seconds hung on for
a losing draw away at Potten End. |
|
3rd August 2006: Previous weeks' Saturday scorecards online |
|
The Hill have had mixed
fortunes in recent weeks. Here are some recent scorecards, the
highlight of which was a strong Seconds performance against
Prestwood on 15th July. |
|
30th July 2006: Sunday side shatters records and continues brilliant season |
|
Ley Hill's
Sunday side smashed the club's highest-score record against Hawridge
& Cholesbury last Sunday. The side smashed 359 for the loss of just
three wickets, and then skittled our local rivals out for just 67.
The previous week, Jon Lown and Oli Runswick hit big scores but our
side could not dismiss Chelsea Nomads - and had to settle for a
draw. |
|
30th July 2006: Lots of updates on the Under 12s' progress |
|
Ian
Partington reports on the Under 12s' matches over the past month.
Most recently, our side stormed to victory over Marlow Park, with
Alex Partington,
Tom Jeffery and Richard Deane each making vital contributions.

30th July 2006: Our girls roar to victory over Hemel |
|
Andy Rennard
report on a recent victory for Ley Hill's girls side over their
counterparts at Hemel Hempstead. An excellent team performance
resulted in a 58-run victory. We hope that more games will follow. |
|
30th July 2006: July newsletter now online |
|
The July 2006
newsletter is now online, including lots of club news and a full
round-up of the recent successes of our club's junior section. |
|
15th July 2006: Sunday round-up |
|
Paul Green's Sunday side are
the brightest thing to come out of Ley Hill's 2006 season. We put
two sides out on the 8th - one cruising to victory over Wooburn, the
other falling to a marginal defeat by Andy Spinks's Akademikals. Back on 1st July,
Cublington had no answer to Will Holman's outrageous leg theory as
the errant all-rounder grabbed his first ever five-wicket haul. |
|
15th July 2006: Saturday Firsts round-up |
|
Jon Lown's Saturday Firsts
are finding it tough going in 2006. After some unlucky early
results, our side is now desperately short on confidence and in need
of some good fortune as the league season goes into its second half. |
|
15th July 2006: Saturday Seconds round-up |
|
Iain Stewart's Saturday
Seconds are in mid-table after a couple of disappointing losses at
the hands of Hampden and Challoners. Nevertheless, our boys are not
far off the promotion places and are well-positioned to mount a
genuine challenge. Recent highlights have included good knocks from
Chris Jones and Olly Runswick. |
|
15th July 2006: Saturday Thirds round-up |
|
As ever, our Saturday
Thirds are providing an excellent introduction to senior cricket for
many of our juniors. We were defeated by Staines & Laleham on 1st
July, but Sophie Khairha, Tom Helm and Chris Morris all scooped two
wickets, while Peter Crichton hit 37 runs. Back on 24th June, the
side soundly defeated Phoenix Old Boys - Tom Helm and Ian Walter did
the damage with the bat. |
|
15th July 2006: Robin Carr reports on games earlier in the season |
|
A number of short reports of Firsts
fixtures are now online, courtesy of Robin Carr. |
| 23rd June 2006: Unhappy weekend as Hill crash to local rivals |
|
Ley Hill's Firsts have
continued their disappointing start to the season, losing heavily to
Hawridge & Cholesbury on Saturday. Our Seconds are down to fifth in
the table after a surprise defeat by Flackwell Heath. |
| 23rd June 2006: Under 12s fight well but fall to Chesham B |
|
Michael Morris scooped the man-of-the-match prize for Ley Hill's
Under 12s, but this was not enough to prevent a defeat by Chesham's
B-side. Team manager Ian Partington reports on the game and has some
tips for his boys (that could also be useful for our seniors).
Meanwhile the Under 12s averages reveal some excellent achievements
by the Hill's stars of the future - including Alex Partington,
Michael Morris, Ben Woodbridge and Peter Garland.
|
| 23rd June 2006: Next update not until early July |
|
Your web master will be on holiday next week and therefore unable to update this site. Next update in the first few days of July. |
| 13th June 2006: Top scorers list updated |
|
Craig Ottaway has been
one of the star performers of 2006 so far. He has scored the highest
batting total of the season (91), and has a five-wicket haul to his
name. Top of the bowling chart is Jon Lown after his eight wickets
against old foes Chesham Bois.
|
| 13th June 2006: Brilliant Under 12s see off Dinton |
|
Our Under 12s notched a great win over
Dinton last week. Skipper Ben Woodbridge was the star of the show
with 28 runs, and further contributions came from throughout the
team. Our side fared less well against Grendon Underwood - apparently
this is a place, not a person - but the Under 12s maintain an
excellent record of not missing out on a catch or a run-out all
season.
Follow the links for Ian Partington's reports on the games.
|
| 11th June 2006: Sunday side continue to sweep away all-comers |
|
Our Sunday side
triumphed over Great Kingshill, to continue their unbeaten record in
2006. Az Shakoor's four wickets, Stuart Clarke's three wickets, and
Will Holman's unbeaten 47 helped Paul Green's men to another win.
|
| 10th June 2006: Firsts' woes continue but Seconds are on the up |
|
Ley Hill's Firsts fell
to defeat at Downley, despite dismissing our lowly opponents for
160. Our Seconds, third in the Mid Bucks League Division 2 before
the game, are having another strong season, and they turned over
fellow high-fliers Downley at the Hill. An incredible partnership
between Iain Stewart and Ben Ford turned round the game for our
boys. The Thirds' game was cancelled. |
| 10th June 2006: Scorecards for 3rd & 4th June now online |
|
Saturday 3rd June was a
disappointing day for Ley Hill, but we fared much better on the
Sunday, and in the Evening Knockout contest, where Jon Lown almost
certainly snaffled the Stan Channer Award with eight wickets. The
President's Day game, between the sponsors of the club, ended in a
tie. |
| 24th May 2006: Super Seconds shock Lacey but Firsts are downed |
|
|
| 17th May 2006: Bank holiday game: will Presidents' men triumph? |
|
Bank Holiday Monday,
29th May, sees the club's annual game between President Dave
Mortimer's team and the side of our club sponsors, Paul Empson Tree
Care and Top Hat Marquees. Liquid refreshments will be available all
day, and a barbecue will follow the game. Match starts at 1.30. |
| 16th May 2006: Seconds notch first win while Firsts fall agonisingly short |
|
Three-wicket hauls from
Gary Helm and Graham Harrison paved the way for the Seconds' victory
over Prestwood on Saturday. Our Firsts, meanwhile, fell agonisingly
short - one run behind on the last ball, Craig Ottaway was caught
out. Sunday's game was washed out. |
| 15th May 2006: Back-dated results and scorecards for start of season now online |
|
Ley Hill registered two
losses on the first league weekend of the season, but these
disappointments aside, the club has had a good start to the 2006
campaign. Both the Saturday Thirds and the Sunday side were unbeaten
going into this weekend's fixtures. Stars of the show so far have
included Az Shakoor, Chris Jones, Kevin Phillips, and - signalling a
return to the glory days of the early-1990s - four-wicket Paul
Green. |

section has been updated to include seniors' and juniors' matches
taking place in the 2006 season. These pages will be updated with

|
| 14th May 2006: Ley Hill in Hospice Cup fixture this Thursday (18th) |
|
The Hospice Cup is a new
competition being organised by the Hospice of St Francis in
Berkhamsted to raise funds for their new extension. The Club is more
than happy to support their fund raising efforts - of which this
cricket competition is just one. There will be a collecting jar of
some description on the bar that evening for people to throw their
loose change into. The Hospice Cup captain is Kevin Phillips. It is
a knock-out competition played to the same rules as the league
evening knock-outs and if we beat Bovingdon next Thursday, we will
be hosts to Flamstead sometime in June. |
| 14th May 2006: Scorer needed for Saturday Second XI |
|
LHCC's mighty Seconds
require a scorer for the 2005/06 season. Full details are within the
flier below. |
| 11th May 2006: Ley Hill Under 12s triumph over Chiltern District Girls Under 14s |
|
Alex Partington took five
wickets for five runs as Ley Hill's Under 12s side scored an
excellent victory over the Chiltern District girls' side of two
years their senior. The Hill's youngsters won with just a few balls
and no wickets to spare. |
| 9th May 2006: Important Juniors' documents now available |
|
Two important documents
relating to Ley Hill's CC Juniors section are now online and
available for download. (These are Microsoft Word documents -
left-click to open file; right-click to save file.) The first
document, the Juniors' welcome pack, contains full details of
fixtures in 2006. |
| 8th April 2006: Juniors' registration form available for download |
|
The
2006 registration form for Ley Hill CC's extremely popular Juniors
section is now online. The club asks that you bring your completed
form(s) and respective fees for 2006 to the pavilion on either
Monday 24th or Tuesday 25th April from 7pm onwards. You are also
requested to stay on for Nigel Hill's presentation on Clubmark and
the Child Protection Policy at 7.30pm - this is an important
presentation and we hope all parents will do their best to be there. |
| 8th April 2006: Pre-season social on 21st April |
|
An event billed as
offering "a drink, a few nibbles and a friendly chat" is scheduled
for 21st April. This is Ley Hill CC's highly enjoyable pre-season
social, and fear not, "a drink" should really read "a bucketful of
Peronis". All are welcome - click the link below for the flier. |
| 8th April 2006: First-ever Juniors' six-a-side planned for 1st May |
|
Bank Holiday Monday on
1st May sees Ley Hill's first ever six-a-side cricket tournament for
the club's Juniors section. The standard looks sure to be high, with
young sides doing very well in the adults' contest last August. More
information on the flier linked below. |
| 8th April 2006: Final averages for 2005 season now online |
|
The final averages for
2005 are now online. Andy Rennard headed the batting averages by
some distance, with surprise candidate Craig Ottaway second. Star
youngster Jake Wells was the champion bowler of the 2005 season. There have also been some minor changes to the statistics and year-by-year top scorers pages. |
| 8th April 2006: Nigel Hill registers incredible nationwide first |
|
Ley Hill's Seniors swept
to victory against the club's Juniors in the annual New Year's Day
game. The highlight was Nigel Hill's fine performance, which saw the
veteran take what must be England's first hat-trick of 2006. Hill
also reached his annual quota of runs - five - before the season
proper has even commenced. |
| 23rd March 2006: Ley Hill CC first club in Bucks to be Clubmark-accredited |
|
Some weeks back, Ley Hill
Cricket became the first cricket club in Buckinghamshire to be
awarded Sport England's Clubmark accreditation. The Clubmark
is awarded only to clubs that prove their coaching and care of young
people meet very high standards. |
| 19th March 2006: March 2006 newsletter now online |
|
The March 2006 club
newsletter is now online. It contains lots of information about
plans for the Juniors section in 2006, as well as requests for help
to prepare the club's facilities for the new season. |
| 17th March 2006: New email address for lhcc.org |
|
This web site has a new
contact email address. The previous address was becoming deluged
with the sort of material previously only found in the changing
rooms at Lane End. (To avoid this address suffering a similar fate,
it will appear on this site only as a picture file, so will not be
clickable.) |
| 15th March 2006: First Seniors' nets this Sunday |
| The first Seniors' nets session of the year takes place this Sunday, continuing each Sunday until the start of the new season. The net runs from 7-9pm, with a cost of £3 per session per person. All are welcome. |
| lhcc.org is back! |
|
After many months on the sidelines, hobbled by hardware failure and
data issues, this web site is back online and will soon be updated
to provide news from the club and a preview of the upcoming season.
It will also be subjected to a minor redesign. Let me know what you
think of the re-jig: Many apologies for the extended downtime. |
