| Paul Green hits 40: | ||||||||||
| Thats years not runs! Yes Paul's birthday celebrations, under the guise of the Games Night, went very well with the usual suspects enjoying a laugh and a drink or two, helping to ease Mr. Green past the milestone of his 40th birthday. We also discovered that Mr. Peterson spent his youth playing darts instead of studying and Felix's 'Chav Pack' get very loud after too many J2O's. Happy birthday Paul! | ||||||||||
| Club AGM: | ||||||||||
| Ley Hill Cricket Club's AGM will take place on Friday 23November in the clubhouse at 8.00pm. There are lots of issues to be voted upon, including rule changes & league teams. Our secretary has sent out the AGM notices mostly by e-mail but if you have not received them, please contact Eleanor direct on 07799 121361 or eleanorphi@aol.com for your copy. | ||||||||||
| League cricket for all? | ||||||||||
Ley Hill third team have been approached by the league to enter Division 3 next season. The committee were obviously very flattered but felt that the decision should rest with the playing members. The matter will be discussed at this years AGM so please think about your views and come along on 23November to voice your opinion and lodge your vote. The committee are also considering forming a second Sunday side to play league cricket. If you have any views on this, please speak to a committe member or Steven Walter who has volunteered to investigate the options. |

||||||||||
| Wicket keeper bags his best catch yet: | ||||||||||
| Many congratulations to Paul and Serena Humphreys who tied the knot last month and extended an invitation to any club member to join them as their guest on the families private island in the Maldives. Unfortunately due to the heavy end of season fixture list only the members of the committee were able to take them up on their very kind offer. | ||||||||||
| Junior award winners now posted: | ||||||||||

All players, partners and guests are welcome to attend the evening which will include a 3-course buffet dinner, the presentation of this year's awards and a production of Puccini's La Boheme by the first eleven. (not really, we thought we'd wrap the evening up with a few parlour games for a change, so bring some loose change and your sense of humour.) Tickets will cost £25, opera glasses not provided. | ||||||||||
| More awards for Ley Hill girls: | ||||||||||
| Susie Gillot won the U15 fielding award at the Buckinghamshire Girls end of year celebrations held at Chesham CC recently. The award was presented by England international all rounder Beth Morgan. Well done Susie! | ||||||||||
| 6-a-side success: | ||||||||||
| The Bank Holiday Monday tournament was a resounding success! With guest teams from Phoenix CC, the Hen & Chickens PH and the Ley Hill Outlaws all contributing to a great days cricket and fun. (Oh and apparently a little drinking too!) | ||||||||||
| Blue Skies: | ||||||||||
| Back in 2001, the club formulated a development plan and vision for the future. Part of the plan was a 'shopping list' of items identified by the committee as essential items for the club to develop and progress. As the club has evolved, the procurement of all the items on the 2001 list has been achieved and now the committee is keen to know what the current members would like to see considered for inclusion on the next 'wish list' for the future. Please e-mail your ideas, however fantastical, to leyhillcc@googlemail.com or speak to one of the committee members. Back in 2001 a second ground seemed pie in the sky as did a permanent net and bowling machine............... | ||||||||||
| Master plans: | ||||||||||
Team captains are busy formulating master plans as the season enters the home straight. The first team to cobble together enough points to avoid the drop from the Premiership, the second team to secure promotion to Division 1, the third team how to beat Berkhampstead 4's and the Sunday side on life after being defeated by Team Holman! |
||||||||||
| Overbowling: | ||||||||||
| With the season now in full swing, may we remind our junior fast bowlers of the ECB directives governing the number of overs they should safely be bowling per week. Will players, parents, coaches, team managers and captains please check on the information now posted on the Junior's section introduction page. If you require any further information or explanation, please ask a member of the coaching staff. Remember you may have 2 arms and 2 legs but you only have 1 back! Look after it. | ||||||||||
| Season's averages now available: | ||||||||||
| The current season's averages are now posted on the statistics page. Take a look and see how you're faring! Scorecards are also posted up to last week including the annual celebrity match against 'The Holmans'. | ||||||||||
| Six a Side Tournament; | ||||||||||
| Teams are required for the senior 6-a-side tournament on 27August. Squads can of course contain more than six players as the day is a social occasion with the emphasis on fun. Please contact Paul Green if you wish to enter a side or require more information. | ||||||||||
| First team robbed: | ||||||||||
| The first team were beaten by the weather last weekend when all was looking rosy! Robin Carrs brief resume of the match (such that it was) has been posted. The thirds game was called off but the seconds and the Sunday side both won! | ||||||||||
| Coaching winds down: | ||||||||||
| Mid-week junior coaching officially finishes Thursday 26July to allow the coaches sufficient time in rehab. Many of the junior sides still have games to play and there's always the weekend league cricket to enjoy if you need a 'cricket fix!' | ||||||||||
| Summer BBQ triumph: | ||||||||||
| Well done to everyone who made the Summer Barbeque such a success! The common was awash with revellers of all ages participating in the many activities arranged for the evening. Suspiciously, despite there being a number of very wet juniors, the weather held until 11 o'clock which was a good time to call it a night. | ||||||||||
| Mixed results once more: | ||||||||||
| Last weekend saw the first team struggle against H&C and although the seconds and thirds were victorious against their opposition, the Sunday side fell foul of the monsoon weather. | ||||||||||
| Inspiration required: | ||||||||||
| While we are waiting for suitable nicknames to flood in, English Steve has some light relief for you . Please click on the English Steve link to find out more. | ||||||||||
| Junior coaching: | ||||||||||
| May we remind everyone to please arrive promptly for a 6.30 start. Parents are of course welcome to avail themselves of the club's facilities both during and after each session. Also as a rule, if it is raining at 6.00 prior to a session, that session will be cancelled as even if it does stop raining, the outfield will be too slippery to use safely. Training sessions that clash with evening matches will be relocated to either the Bellingdon ground, (directions can be found under 'About Ley Hill CC', click on 'our club.') or Ley Hill school's sports field, your coach will let you know. Will all juniors who require medication or suffer from allergies please ensure they have their medicines with them at all times, training evenings and matches! First aid kits and emergency information is kept at all times behind the bar, please ask if you require anything specific. | ||||||||||
| Hill win 1 out of 3: | ||||||||||
| Only the second team managed to win last weekend. The firsts put up a spirited performance against Holmer Green and the Sunday side lost by only 6 runs in a game with more than its fair share of LBW decisions! | ||||||||||
| Summer BBQ: | ||||||||||
| The annual summer barbeque is Friday 13July. Everyone is welcome! Players, juniors, parents, friends, families, pets, casual acquaintances. There will be lots to eat, drink & do and the weather will be fabulous so come along, any time after 7.30 and join in the fun! | ||||||||||
| Summer Ball a resounding success: | ||||||||||
| The club's Summer Ball on Saturday night was a great success for the hundred or so revellers who dressed up & turned up for an evening's entertainment under a Chesham Marquee, which was errected & dismantled in appalling weather. Well done chaps!. Black tie and cocktail dresses were the order of the day & starting with a champagne & strawberry reception, guests then sat down to an super three course dinner with an Asian theme courtesy of The Golden Platter. As the wine flowed the very professional, Valentine Vagabonds expertly coaxed the crowds onto the dancefloor. Those who were hesitant were eventually persuaded by the excellent Mrs. Lee, well done DJ Anne. The festivities went on to the very early hours when those who were left thought they had better get home before sun-up! The evening was made a success by the large number of villagers who have nothing to do with the cricket club but supported the occassion, determined to join in and enjoy themselves. Thank you to them. Thanks also to all those involved in the planning & execution of this event, too many to mention but you know who you are. Special thanks go to the chairman, Robin Carr, where apparently the butt would have stopped if anything had gone wrong. But nothing did go wrong, quite the opposite and now Robin can start planning next years! | ||||||||||
| Seconds out of cup: | ||||||||||
| Iain Stewart's seconds missed out on the chance of a glamorous final at the Peroni Stadium when they lost to Hughenden Valley in the semi final evening game. Scorecard now posted. | ||||||||||
| Sunday side brush aside Cublington: | ||||||||||
| As the miserable summer weather continues, the only cricket played last weekend was by multi-tasking Paul Green's Sunday side. Clearly too strong for the visitors from Cublington, apparently depleated by a club tour, the stumps were drawn early after dazzling performances by Ollie Runswick with the bat and Sam Helm with the ball. | ||||||||||
| Tour to Australia: | ||||||||||
| If anyone fancies playing cricket in Australia next year click on this link for details. Please be advised that the tour has nothing to do with LHCC but as a service, your intrepid editor has posted the details for anyone who may be interested. | ||||||||||
| Second Team Progress in Cup: | ||||||||||
| A nail biting finish saw the second's midweek clash with Lacey Green 2's end in victory. Scorecard & a rare second team report (thanks Eleanor) now posted. | ||||||||||
| Poor weekend for cricket & erecting marquees; | ||||||||||
| Showers hampered the preparations for the Summer Ball and any progress in the leagues last weekend. All the Saturday sides lost and the Sunday game was rained off. | ||||||||||
| Firsts Win: | ||||||||||
| The first team recorded their first win in the league, playing one of the very few (if only) complete games on a very wet Saturday. The second's match did not even start and the third's was unfortunately abandoned when they looked good to take the honours against Wendover. | ||||||||||
| Juniors: | ||||||||||
| Both the U13 & U15 girl's teams lost out in exciting games to Chesham in the Lady Taverner's Tournament. The U17's play Ballinger on Thursday in the next round of their cup ahead of the square being out of commission for the weekend's Summer Ball. | ||||||||||
| U12's record first win: | ||||||||||
| The U12's posted their first win of the season against Flackwell Heath. An unbeaten 30 by Luke Asquith plus tight bowling by James Copestick & Joel Barnes help secure the victory. Match captain Andrew Spreadborough was speechless. Manager Bruce Copestick said 'It's a shame more of the coaching staff weren't present to witness this unique moment.' It was later revealed he was refering to master Spreadborough rather than the outcome of the match. | ||||||||||
| U17's march on: | ||||||||||
| The U17's overcome Taplow to progress further in their cup competition. Reports are now posted of games played so far. | ||||||||||
| Summer Ball : | ||||||||||
| We have a Summer Ball this year on 23June, to which everyone is welcome! In a marquee on the common, there will be a live band & disco, 3-course meal & free wine (2 bottles per table). Black tie & cocktail dresses are de rigueur, tickets cost £45 each. Download a flyer here | ||||||||||
| Whoops: | ||||||||||
| The Saturday sides all loose at various levels of embarrassment! Jake Wells' performance for the firsts is eclipsed by a run-out farce. Lewis Thompson supplies the only highlight for the seconds, as indeed the juniors show the way for the thirds. The Sunday side win comfortably, Paul Humphreys and Team Helm take the honours. The U17's progress to the next stage of their cup competition with a good win over Taplow. | ||||||||||
| The Fairer Sex: | ||||||||||
| Ley Hill's girls team game against GX had to be called off but this Friday sees us host the prestigious Lady Taverner's Tournament. A barbeque is planned so come along and watch the U13 ladies defend their title! | ||||||||||
| Presidents & Club Sponsors Day: | ||||||||||
| Despite the awful weather, a cheery time was had by all who were at the club on Monday. Eleanor Phillips has recovered sufficiently to recall the events she remembers. Click here! | ||||||||||
| Glorious June: | ||||||||||
| The first weekend of June saw the first silverware at Ley Hill CC this season! The Saturday third team were victorious at the Phoenix Old Boys Tournament, an exhaustive report and scorecards are up for your delectation! The seconds top Division 2 as the first team falter at WESM and the Sunday side stumble at home. | ||||||||||
| Weekend's cricket: | ||||||||||
| The first team battled well against a strong Hughenden Valley side, the seconds strode home and celebrated with draught Peroni in the opposition's local, the thirds came second despite an excellent performance by half of Team Thompson! Scorecards & reports have been posted. | ||||||||||
| Mixed Fortunes: | ||||||||||
| Mixed fortunes last weekend, the firsts, thirds & U12's fell foul of strong opposition but the seconds, Sunday side & U13's triumphed at both of our home grounds. U13's manager Ian Partington has produced his squads' averages, click here & Eleanor Phillips has updated this seasons' top scorers file. | ||||||||||
| Presidents & Club Sponsors Day: | ||||||||||
| Bank holiday monday sees this years Presidents & Club Sponsors match. Club president Matthew Harman will be pitching his team against Kevin Phillips' 'All Star' Ley Hill side. The club sponsors Paul Empson Tree Care & Ley Hill Solutions will be in attendance, the club is open from 12 noon and a barbeque is planned for after the game. After you've washed the car & mown the lawn, pop along for a drink and a chat, bring the family, there's nothing on the telly! | ||||||||||
| Midweek Coaching: | ||||||||||
Midweek coaching starts on Monday 14May. Starting at 6.30 and finishing at 8.00, squads are as follows.
|
||||||||||
| First League weekend: | ||||||||||
| The first League games produced mixed fortunes for Ley Hill. The U11's and the U13's both lost on 'chilly Friday'. The firsts and the Sunday side also stumbled but the second and third 11's both made short work of their opposition. Scorecards and reports are up! Despite 'Team Helm' claiming seven wickets for the 2's, Terry 'lucky' Rothwell has already set the 'bar' for this seasons Stan Channer bowling award with an outstanding 5 for 15 for the thirds who also recorded zero extras! The Monday game against the Roving Reporters was called off. | ||||||||||
| Pre-season matches: | ||||||||||
| The under 17's get off to a flying start as do the first XI. Mixed results for the Sunday side. Az Shakoor finds out what its like to get a headache rather than be one! (only joking Az, hope you're feeling better) Scorecards posted for all games. | ||||||||||
| Cricket Force Update: | ||||||||||
Many thanks the faithful few who spent an enjoyable hour or two sprucing up the clubhouse and our new facility at Bellingdon. Both grounds are looking spic & span (very old expression-sorry) and ready for action! Special mention goes to Jim Rainey who as usual wasted no time in removing his shirt for all the ladies present and Robin Carr who kindly tested Denis McCarthy's new wonder bio-fuel. Suffice to say, McCarthy will not be giving up his day job! |
||||||||||
| Junior Indoor Nets: | ||||||||||
Indoor net practise sessions have now finished and the Ley Hill coaching staff would like to thank Westbrook Hay School and Chesham Preparatory School for the use of their excellent facilities. We hope all the juniors who attended the sessions had as much fun as we did! |
||||||||||

||||||||||
| Junior Indoor Nets: | ||||||||||
The preseason net sessions are coming to a close. The last session at Westbrook Hay will be on 15April, while Chesham Prep School will finish on 29April. Sessions at either facility are from 5.30pm - 7.00pm at a cost of £2 each. May we remind participants at both venues to wear mud-free trainers with non-marking soles and to please take any rubbish (water bottles, sweet wrappers, etc.) home with them after each session. |
||||||||||
| English Steve at the World Cup: | ||||||||||
| As the antipathy of Aussie Dave, English Steve has been sunning himself in the Caribbean watching the action at the World Cup and can report back that Dwayne Leverock is not Paul Green after an overdose of fake tan (Paul's better than Dwayne anyway) but Dave Mortimer has taken New Zealand citizenship and is now to be known as Daniel Vittori (click on the above nav-bar for proof!). | ||||||||||
| New Ground: | ||||||||||
Following the sad demise of Bellingdon Cricket Club, LHCC were offered and have successfully negotiated the tenure of the Bellingdon ground. The committee have long been aware of the necessity of securing additional facilities for the ever increasing player base of LHCC and when this opportunity was presented the committee and in particular, our new chairman Mr. Robin Carr were determined not to let it pass. Having two grounds to prepare and maintain will not be easy but the benefits of being in control of the additional facility will resolve any fixture or training confliction and enable LHCC to offer our facilities on a more regular basis to our partner clubs and schools. |
