Bledlow Ridge v Ley Hill, 3rd August 2003
Tom Holman
After The Lee pulled out of the
scheduled fixture - obviously fearing a thrashing from Paul Green's army - Ley
Hill travelled to a hastily arranged game at Bledlow Ridge that ended in a
remarkably uninteresting and low scoring draw.
Batting first, Keith Strickland and Will Holman put on 45 for the first wicket,
but no-one in the middle order could top Stuart Clarke's score of 17. Only a
rare double-figure innings from Paul Green in the number 11 berth that he has
made his own brought his team to a respectable total, as the innings closed on
145 all out.
That total shouldn't have been a taxing target for Bledlow Ridge, but they
counted without Ley Hill's scrooge-like bowling attack. Az Shakoor and Will
Rothwell showed the way with 3 for 15 and 2 for 23 respectively from their 10
over spells, and after that early blast Bledlow Ridge were never in the hunt.
Kash Shakoor and Paul Green picked up a wicket each, but not even the occasional
bowling talents of Paul Humphreys could unlock the final few wickets as Bledlow
Ridge finished on 109 for 8 from 41 overs.
Ley Hill: 145 all out (Strickland 29, W Holman 20)
Bledlow Ridge: 109 for 8 (A Shakoor 3 for 15, Rothwell 2 for 23)
