Monks Risborough vs Ley Hill, 11th June 2005
Birkett's maiden century leads to great win for Ley Hill
Robin Carr
Ley
Hill scored a marvellous victory away at Monks Risborough thanks to a tremendous
started horribly, however, with them losing their openers cheaply and falling to
21-2 until Rennard (33) and Shakoor (23) calmed things down with a third wicket
stand of 78. Then enter Birkett who scored exactly one hundred off 115 balls in
113 minutes, Ley Hill ending on 197-7.
Khan’s 2-55 recorded Monks Risborough’s best figures and Ley Hill had only
themselves to blame for most of the others; preposterous running between the
wickets leading to four run outs.
Risborough opened their innings brightly with Carrington (46) leading the way in a first wicket stand of 40 but the next four wickets fell far too cheaply until Shah (32) and Altaf (16) gave them some hope, Sadly the tail enders then collapsed and Risborough were all out for 162.
It was Ley Hill’s Rob Thomson (3-33), Will Rothwell (3-38) and skipper Jon Lown’s (2-34) who did most of the damage but it was Andy Rennard’s direct hit on the stumps with a fantastic throw from the boundary for the final wicket that drew the most applause.
Ley Hill won by 35 runs
Ley Hill: 197 for 7 (Birkett 100, Rennard 33)
Monks Risborough: 162 all out (Thompson 3 for 33, Rothwell 3 for 38)
