Widmer End vs Ley Hill, 28th May 2005
Robin Carr
Ley Hill maintained their 100% record in the Premier League with a fine win over Little Gaddesden. Put into bat, Gaddesden were all out for 175, Wooster (34), Barrington (43) and the excellent Heck (62 n.o.) being their top scorers. Gaddesden will reflect sadly on the fact that none of their other batsmen managed to get into double figures.
Ley Hill’s opening bowlers, Craig Ottaway and skipper Jon Lown causing Gaddesden many problems. Ottaway’s superb 4-45 doing most of the damage and Lown’s economical spell of 12 overs, 1-34 keeping the total down. Volant wicket-keeper Nick Lee took 2 stumpings and will tell you but for the umpires there could have been more!
Lown once again led from the
front as Ley Hill chased the total, scoring an excellent 54 including a stand of
83 with Ian Birkett, right (62 n.o.). Gaddesden’s opening bowler Ivan Veall was
unlucky to only take 1 wicket for 25 runs from a very good 12 overs and Charlie
Farley’s rather erratic bowling brought him 3-52. Ley Hill were worthy victors,
never looking in trouble in this good-spirited and very friendly match.
Little Gaddesden: 175 all out (Ottaway 4 for 45,
Birkett 2 for 26)
Ley Hill: 177 for 5 (Birkett 68 not out, Lown 54)
Ley Hill won by 5 wickets
