BroomWade vs Ley Hill, 23rd July 2005

Robin Carr

Third in the league Ley Hill were completely outclassed by a superb performance by league leaders BroomWade. The Hill were missing several key players but even so it’s difficult to see how anyone could have beaten a BroomWade side in this form.

A surprise looked on the cards to begin with though, as BroomWade made a disastrous start to their innings being 15-3 at one stage. Fine batting by Ahmed (54) and Gulfraz (67 n.o.) set them on their way to 229-9 declared from 41 overs.

Of the Ley Hill bowlers, special mention should be made of Kevin Phillips who started his spell just moments after dislocating a finger whilst attempting a diving catch. Despite being in obvious pain and discomfort Phillips still went on to take 5 wickets for 51.

It is only the third time this season BroomWade have scored more than 200 runs in an innings, their bowling being their strongest asset – and so it proved again as Khan (3-13) and the excellent Parvez (7-17) skittled Ley Hill to 43 all out in just over 16 overs.

BroomWade win by 186 runs
BroomWade: 229 for 9 (Phillips 5 for 51, Ottaway 2 for 43)
Ley Hill: 43 all out (Az Shakoor 1, Lee 1, Holman 0, Leadbitter 0, Ottaway 0, Rothwell 0)
