Widmer End vs Ley Hill, 28th May 2005
Widmer End Hammer Ley Hill
Robin Carr
An excellent performance by Widmer End left Ley Hill thoroughly beaten in the Mid-Bucks Kookaburra League on Saturday. Winning the toss and choosing to bat, Widmer at first looked to be in trouble when they were 17-1 but their next three batsmen scored a massive 238 between them to leave a the Hill chasing 255. Hashmi made an exciting146 and was well supported by Saeed (60) and Khan (32), although all of them rode their luck and were dropped early in their innings.
Ley
Hill’s only bright spot amongst the many dropped catches and poor mis-fields was
Az Shakoor’s excellent spell of 3-40, which leaves him on a hat-trick for the
next match.
The Hill’s batting was held in check by the excellent Degelas. who conceded only
30 runs during his 11 overs, and Hashmi’s 2-19, but it was left-arm spin-bowler
Stuart Turner’s terrific 4-19 off 8 overs that left the Hill reeling. Andy
Rennard, right (32) was their top scorer and despite a battling 18 by Nick Lee
they struggled to reach 111 all out.
This was a first rate all round performance by Widmer End and a disappointment for Ley Hill who had been on a winning streak prior to this match.
Widmer End trounced Ley Hill by 144 runs
Widmer End: 255 for 5 (Az Shakoor 3 for 40)
Ley Hill: 111 all out (Rennard 32, Lee 18, Kash Shakoor 15)
