LITTLE
ENOUGH
He
creaks a bit, groans a lot and he’s always moaned throughout, but Holmer Green
veteran Martin Little was the difference between Ley Hill and Holmer on
Saturday.
Opening
the batting and watching four other batsmen perish in front of him, Little
scored an impressive and well-earned 104 as he lead Holmer to victory.
Watt
(32) combined with Little for a good opening stand of
58 and King’s 42 helped push the score to 233-8.
Teenager
Jake Wells (4-35) was the pick of the Hill’s bowlers along with skipper Kevin
Phillips (3-63). All five of Ley Hill’s
junior players played with credit, with Stephen Walter taking two tremendous
catches.
Ley
Hill did look as if they were going to make a fight of it. The Shakoor brothers opened and made 55 off
the first 5 overs before Kash was caught for 23. Az stayed around for longer making an
excellent 55 but only Craig Peterson (24) and Walter (19) made any headway
against Holmer’s excellent bowling.
Steve
Jerman, bowling slower than usual, took 4-54 and was aided by good spells from
Dan King and Dan Ward who both took 2-17.
Veteran Tom Dearing also bowled well taking one wicket
for only 20 runs from 9 overs.
Holmer’s fielding was also top notch, in particular Watt who deserves a
mention for his excellent catch to dismiss Az Shakoor.
But the
day belonged to Martin Little who received a standing ovation as he left the
field. Please drive quietly through
Holmer Green – he’s probably still recovering.
