With
points desperately needed to avoid relegation, Ley Hill set about their match
with Monks Risborough full of determination.
Monks, howver, were not going to be push overs and an excellent first
wicket stand of 61 quietened the Hill’s bowlers. Despite losing their second
wicket next ball, Monks continued to score runs. Altaf (40), Shah (39) and Jamil (28) all
making solid contributions to Risboro’s final total of 228. Ley Hil picked up maximum bowling points for
getting Monks all out; Phillips 3-55 and Lown
Chasing
229 for victory against a strong bowling side was always going to be a tall
order and at 66-3 Ley Hill started to think about getting batting points and
possibly a draw. Runswick excellent 48 along with Kash Shakoor’s 46 started to
make Monks things interesting but a catastrophic moment by skipper Phillips who
managed to run out three of his colleagues in as many balls ended all hopes of
a result. Ley Hill were finally all out for a
creditable 192 with opened Jon Lown making 38.
Mia’s
excellent spell of 10 overs, 3 -33 was the pick of Monks Risboro’s bowlers.
It now
goes to the final league game of the season: either Ley Hill or Haddenham will
be relegated and both have to win (against Ballinger and Holmer respectively).
