LEY HILL FIGHT FOR A DRAW
Despite Monks Risboro’ scoring a huge 305-6 in their innings, Ley Hill fought back superbly to claim a losing draw in Saturday’s enthralling match.
Monks are known as a superb batting side and aided and abetted by sloppy fielding they made getting over 300 look easy; scoring 200 of their runs in the last 25 overs! Sattar (85), Amjad (98), and Rafid (71 n.o) all contributed excellently as Monks plundered the Hill’s bowlers. Veteran Jon Lown (2-41) at least kept his average to less than 4 per over. The bowling figures of Chamberlain (2-55), Wells (2-71) and Ottaway (0-71) illustrate Monks’ batting power.
Sadly their batting expertise doesn’t continue through to their bowling and although they reduced the Hill to 30-2, they never looked fully in control and there was never a real danger the Hill would lose. Ian Birkett (63), Rob Rooney 40 n.o.- his best 1st XI score - and Steve Walter (39) all batted well as Ley Hill comfortably finished on 235-8, thus getting a losing draw and full bowling and batting points.
This match has a history of being played in great spirit and Saturday was no different.
