LEY HILL WIN
FIIRST LEAGUE MATCH OF SEASON
Ley Hill beat
Chesham Bois in a local derby to gain their first Mid Bucks Premier League win
of the season.
Chesham Bois
opening bowlers Adams and Green kept the score down to begin with. Adams having
bad luck - and deserving a wicket or two - in his 12 overs (0-26), whilst Green
had four maidens amongst his ten overs
(1-22).
Ley Hill’s innings
didn’t really take off until Ollie Runswick took to the crease and made an
excellent 74. He was ably assisted by
Rennard (22), Birkett (21) and Peterson (22 n.o.) as the Hill made 181-5 from
their 43 overs – two overs a side being lost to rain. Thomson’s fine spell ended with him taking
3-46.
Chasing 181 in the
drizzle was always an uphill task for Chesham Bois who soon slipped to
72-8. Kemp (27) and Golding (26) were
their top scorers, but once Golding had gone – having been part of a spirited
saving-the match-stand of 35, the Bois steam ran out and Jake Wells (an
excellent 5-24) took away the tail-enders for a Bois total of 116 all out. Skipper Craig Ottaway ended with 2-38 and
veteran Jon Lown 2-15 from 9 overs.
But spare a
thought for Chesham Bois player Craig Rinsell.
He’s a groundsman who specialises in cricket pitches and found himself
preparing the Ley Hill pitch for the visit of his own team – and was then
bowled out second ball! At least he
couldn’t blame the wicket.
