KNOTTY TOO GOOD FOR THE HILL
Top of the table Knotty Green were forced to work hard for their victory by a spirited Ley Hill side. Put into bat, the Hill were bowled out for 144. Jon Lown (22) and Stephen Walter (18) having a good opening partnership before C. Lewis bowled Walter. This brought Andy Rennard to the crease and the two veterans looked good for a while until Rennard was brilliantly caught by a diving Sutton. Craig Peterson made a fight of it for a while as he battled to 32, but the total was never going to be enough.
C. Lewis (3-27), Widdowson (3-32) and Roberts (3-35) bowling well enough to both keep the score down and the wickets falling.
If Knotty thought their work was done they were in for a surprise. 16 year old debutant Sam Helm (3-26) – including one bowled that sent the off stump cart-wheeling down the ground in spectacular fashion - and Chamberlain (2-27) helped put the pressure on the Green. Lown was as miserly as usual with his bowling (1-28 from 8 overs) but Mahmood (32), Sutton (32), and Widdowson (29) did enough damage for Knotty to make 145-6. A mention must go to wicket-keeper Ollie Runswick’s astonishing one handed diving catch to dismiss Mahmood.
