Jon Lown 2003 - the real responses

1. Were you satisfied with 2002's performances?
2002 was hugely satisfying. I managed to score over 1000 runs and come top of the averages, beating Andy Rennard in the last game. The first team didn't do as well as me, with too many of the experienced top order batsmen not scoring enough runs in the handful of overs that I left them to bat. This all culminated in going into the last game of the season with the threat of relegation still a possibility. Thankfully, I got some runs in that game as well. Despite the poor batting form of the whole team (with the exception of me), I have been shocked at the apparent lack of commitment to putting this right by non-attendance of our batsmen at winter nets. They should have been practicing how to get 50s and 60s in the six or seven overs at the end of an innings to get our scores up to around the 180 mark, after I have seen off the new ball for 40 overs.

2. What do you think Ley Hill's prospects are for the 2003 season?
I am confident that I can bat long enough to score more runs than anyone else and come top of the batting averages. Hopefully, I can come top of the bowling averages as well if I take myself off when the big hitters get in and bowl at the tail-enders. Everyone else needs to closely examine their own contributions and how they are going to benefit me this year. If they learn to play around me, then we should do quite well.

3. What international cricketer would you most liken yourself to?
Interesting question and it would be intriguing to see who the Ley Hill players themselves would choose! Being realistic, I would say Chris Tavare as we are both top order batsmen who like to occupy the crease.

4. Over the winter the club has improved its patio facility, increasing the area on which players can enjoy post-match drinks. Does this mean that you will be staying for more than one drink after games?
Probably not. I have my average to think about and can't let drinking and other fripperies get in the way. In any case, have you seen the prices in the bar?
