Saturday 12th June 2004

The cricket stars of future years took to the field on Saturday 12th June in the annual 8-a-side tournament for Under 10s hosted in the impressive surroundings of Westbrook Hay School. Four teams took part - the others being Hemel Hempstead, Ballinger, Westbrook Hay.
The squad of Ben Teden, Ben Woodbridge, James Copestick, Michael Morris, Stephen Carr, Alex Partington, Lewis Thompson, Melissa Rennard and Sophie East did the Club proud.
The team played three matches, and although they did not win any of their matches they played with great commitment and flair. All the scores were close and we were only beaten due to the greater experience of many of the other players.
The team took it in turn to be Captain and during the day Lewis Thompson, Michael Morris and Ben Woodbridge steered the team well with a little help from the friendly umpires.
All spectators were impressed by the batting and fielding expertise of the team, particularly as for many of them was their first experience of playing with full kit and a hard ball. Special mention must go to Lewis Thompson for his fantastic batting performance including 5 sixes and numerous 4s. This performance was recognised by the organisers and Lewis was presented with the prize for best batting performance. Last but certainly not least praise must go to our “secret weapon” Sophie East who clean bowled five of the opposition – well done Sophie!
Many thanks to Ian Walter for organising the event, to Robin Carr and Trevor Teden for their umpiring prowess and to all the parents who supported the team during the day.
