Ley Hill U'14s vs Chenies & Latimer U'14s, 14th May 2004
Stephen Walter reports on the side's success
This match was a very friendly friendly, with Ley Hill overcoming Chenies & Latimer quite comfortably. We were put in to bat first after losing the toss and began well with a good run rate. Ben Ford and Lawrence Chamberlain rattled up a quick-fire fifth wicket partnership of 46 scoring 28 and 26 respectively, but were made to retire. Sam Harrison then backed them up with a rapid 22 not out, but the top scorer in this innings was Extras with 40! With a very respectable 134 for 8 from our 20 overs, we had a great opportunity to win the game.
When Chenies went out to bat, only one batsman scored double figures. Some superb bowling from Harrison, Ben Fletcher, Alex Wallis, Tom Pierce, Dan Wilde, Phil Goddard and Stephen Walter won Ley Hill the game, with wickets from Harrison, Fletcher, Wallis and Walter. Also notable was the quality of the fielding with Alex Wallis taking two remarkable catches inches off the ground and Ollie Mace and Stephen Walter running batsmen out. Chenies managed just 73 runs and were all out inside 15 overs, giving Ley Hill victory by 61 runs, a great start to what will hopefully be a good season.
