Ley Hill U'14s vs Chenies & Latimer U'14s
Richard Falconer
After winning all their previous games, the U'14s went into this game quietly confident. Ley Hill and Chenies had met in a friendly at the end of May and Ley Hill won that one so we were hoping for repeat performance. Ben Ford decided to bowl on pitch that was great for batting, as the boundaries were so short. Under-strength Chenies batted well and Ley Hill bowled well in spells. The wickets came from some good bowling by Chris Morris and Ben Ford, both of them getting wickets. Oliver Mace, Sam Harrison, Ollie Runswick and Richard Falconer all picked up catches.
Chenies finished on 95 after their 20 overs. As the pitch was so small this was a very achievable target. Ben Ford and Richard Falconer opened the batting but some very straight bowling made runs hard to come by. Then in the fourth over Stephen Walter shouted out to pick the run rate up and Richard had a swing at the next ball and got bowled. Oh well. Out for four. The fall of the wicket was at 18.
Daniel Wilde strolled into the crease looking very confident and he was in no mood to mess around hitting a four of his first ball. With his new bat in his hand, it seemed no body could stop him. He kept on going, smashing a total of 9 fours and it would have been more had it not been for some excellent fielding. He was dropped once and was nearly run out by Ben Ford when there was clearly a run. We must not forget Ben though - he hit some very good shots and kept things together out there.
Ley Hill won easily in the end in the 13th over, with Dan Wilde finishing on 52 not out and Ben Ford getting 28 not out. Well done to those two, and well done to the whole team because they are still top of the league.
