Under 17s vs Hawridge & Cholesbury - 11th May 2005
Eleanor Phillips
A sweet result!
What a difference a week makes. Another clear, sunny evening and at least one degree warmer than Bovingdon on the 4th - and Ley Hill batted first in their second Mid-Bucks Youth League game against Hawridge & Cholesbury. Frustrated by facing several wides, Jamie Morris succumbed eventually to the opening bowler, but his opening partner Jake Wells went on to top score with 42 before being stumped. Second highest scorer was Scott Peterson with 21 not out. Ley Hill a respectable 129 for 4 from their 20 overs.
Innings of H&C, who had arrived with only 9 players but a tough 9 to beat. The opening stand of 34 was only broken when Harvey Mash ran out Khan. Top scorer for H&C was Holden with 37 and at one stage it looked as though it was possible for them to get the winning total of 130. But it was not to be.
Stephen Walter was brought on to bowl with 16 overs gone and promptly took Holden's wicket, quickly followed by that of Ahmed. Omar and Taj did their best in the remaining time but H&C could only manage a total of 116 by the end of their 20 overs.
The 20/20 rules contain a clause about the length of time of an innings - the 20 overs have to be bowled within 1 hr 15 mins or the batting side is awarded 6 runs for every over past the time limit. At one stage it did look as though it was getting close to that limit for Ley Hill, but they managed to finish with 9 minutes to spare.
Next Wednesday (18th May) Ley Hill U-17s are playing Potten End at home, game starting at 6.15 pm. You are cordially invited to come along and watch our young men in action. The Juniors who come to the Wednesday practice night will be switched to the playing field at Ley Hill School again.
