Dinton U12s v Ley Hill U12s - 5th June 2006, played at Dinton
Dinton 93-2 (20 overs) Ley Hill 94-4 (15.1 overs)
Ian Partington
Ley Hill beat Dinton after a superb team performance. Captain Ben Woodbridge won the toss and put the opposition in to bat. Dinton got off to a good start scoring 64 runs in good time before losing their first wicket. Tight bowling towards the end of the innings by Peter Garland (3-12-1) Rory Sore (3-6-0) and Tom Jeffrey (2-6-1) supported by Michael Morris managed to peg back the score. Dinton ended their innings with a score of 93 runs for the loss of only 2 wickets in their allotted 20 over. Loose fielding however saw too many overthrows conceded; the team forgetting to back up throws for the first time this season. On the positive side, Tom Cullen (behind the stumps) kept the byes down and Peter Garland and Josh Wright took good catches. After 3 matches (plus one abandoned) the under 12’s have maintained their record of not having dropped a catch nor missed a run out all season. Surely, they must be the only team in the club to be able to boast this record.
When Ley Hill batted they got off to a confident start with Lewis Thompson (13) and Alex Humphrey (11) putting on 29 runs for the first wicket before Lewis was unfortunate to be out playing on. Richard Deane and Alex Humphrey continued the good work taking the score up to 49 before losing the second wicket. A further wicket quickly followed and with the score on 49-3, Dinton sensed an opportunity to get back into the game. Josh Wright (10) and Ben Woodbridge (28 not out) however seized the iniative back for Ley Hill. After Josh was out it was left to Ben Woodbridge and Alex Partington to see the team home for a comfortable win with 4.5 over and 6 wickets to spare.
Jack Thompson gave the man of the match award to Ben Woodbridge for his top score of 28 not out.
