Ley Hill won a close game against Chesham B in the league. Hill won the toss and put Chesham into bat. The bowling was opened by Alex Partington and Ben Woodbridge. They reduced Chesham to 31-6 off 8 overs. Alex taking his second five wickets haul of the season for the cost of 19 runs. While Ben bowled tightly at the other, end taking one wicket for the cost of 9 runs. Their bowling was backed up by Rory Sore 4-1, and Tom Jeffery 6-2, with Josh Wright, Peter Garland, and Alex Humphrey taking good catches. Josh Wright was the other wicket taker.
Chesham managed to rally to a total score of 77-10 losing their last wicket in the final over. There was a however a feeling that Hill had let them off the hook, as our fielding and bowling became more casual. Tom Cullen however, still kept his concentration as he kept wicket well on a pitch with variable bounce.
When Ley Hill opened their innings, Jamie Lewis and Rory Sore got the side off to a solid and confident start. Jamie had already retired on a score of 30 by time the first wicket was lost. At 47-1 after 13 overs, the side looked to have matters under control. But Jamie’s departure had signalled a drop in the run rate. From a position of strength, being 39-0 off 9 overs, the next 8 overs yielded a mere 14 runs. By time Hill lost their 4th wicket, they needed 24 runs from 3 overs when Alex Partington joined Ben Tedden at the crease. Ben hit a superb lofted drive over the bowlers head for 4 before being stumped in the chase for runs. The winning runs were finally hit by Alex who finished on 16 not out with 3 balls to spare.
The man of the match award was given to Alex Partington by the opposition coach.
