Ley Hill beat Chenies & Latimer in a friendly match played at Chenies ground. Ley Hill won the toss and elected to bat. Quick wickets were lost and the side were reduced to 23-4 off 6 overs. The team rallied to drag the score to 87. Tom Jeffery (7) and Jamie Lewis (9 no) formed a useful last wicket stand with Tom losing his wicket in the final over. Hills top scorers were Alex Partington (14) and Tom Cullen (12).
When Chenies innings started, Ben Woodbridge and Alex Partington opened the bowling and were supported well in field. Quick wickets were taken and the opposition reduced to 3-3 in the first two overs. They then continued to make slow progress to 10-5 and 30-8. Hill were in control but failed to take the final wickets as they took their foot off the pedal and dropped a number of catches.
All the players (save for the wicket keeper) bowled and most took wickets. The best figures were Richard Deane 2-0-8-2. Highlights of the fielding display were; Ben Woodbridge taking 4 catches; and two run outs by Jamie Lewis and Josh Wright. Josh’s effort was outstanding. He dived to stop the ball, and then with one stump to aim at, ran the batsman out with a direct throw, whilst lying on the ground. Tom Jeffery and Jamie Lewis also took good catches.
This was an all round team performance with all the players making useful contributions. The man of the match award was given to Richard Deane by team managers Ian Partington and Matthew Wright for his two wickets.
