Gudday me old muckers, how's it going? Hope this email finds you all in as good health as it does me. Not a lot happening down here, not a very good summer for cricket, it's been pissing down, spent most of our time blowing the froth off a few and rearing up on our hind legs... ah what's that hold on a minute the rains stopped be back soon love you all.

Its Rooney here in sunny Chicago where I have been since July and will continue to be until mid November. Well congratulations on the first team's promotion, although my main priority is to see "the real cricketing side" the 2nds go up, so good luck boys. Well I have to say they this is the first season I have gone without cricket and it has been hard but I pulled through.

Top 5 things missed:
1.
Banter with lads throughout club & beer
2. Beer and watching women on the common or outside the Crown.
3. Homemade cakes.
4. The thrill of 2nd team cricket - "skill and vision".
5. Taking catches, getting runs etc.. and a reason to get out of bed after a hangover.

Top five things not missed:
1.
Packet's teas - economy mini rolls etc...
2. Seeing someone drop a catch for the fourth time in 30mins.
3. Playing against the posh boys cant remember what they are called but think one player was called Rupert or Charles or something equally as gay.
4. Krankie in a strop or crying about something at 3rd man.
5. Washing up when people are drinking beer.

By the way in case you didn't know, I'm coaching football and now have three under ten girls teams who I train twice a week and game coach on Sundays. I work for Lyons Township Soccer Club which is roughly 40 minutes from downtown Chicago where coincidently I have been on a regular basis to check out the bars, clubs, atmosphere etc... Basically I went out here to coach in the summer camps and got offered a new contract to stay out here until November, so accepted it as it is much better than coming home and getting a crappy 9-5 job and living in Chesham! So here I am and enjoying life in USA.

So good luck for the rest of the season and I'll hopefully see you all for a beer or ten when I get back.

Hi to everyone at the Club.

Just a quick note to say that Hertford and Vicky's twin girls arrived on Wednesday at 2.10 pm. Nipper 1 was 4.10 lbs and Nipper 2 4.9 lbs. Girls and Mum doing well but Dad is still in shock. Now seriously outnumbered!

Thank you all for your welcome and support for a beginner over the past few weeks. I have been lucky enough to play for many clubs/teams in loads of different sports over the past 25 odd years but the friendly welcome at "the Hill" has been the best! Looking forward to playing with you all for many years to come.

See you all soon! Best Regards

Hertford King

Hi everyone, hope you are all cool! I thought I might as well write in and become an active member of the club and website. Well I have a few points to make in this letter, the first being how much I am enjoying my self at the club. As is my little brother Kash who has been taken under the wing of Brian when he is in the 2nds, and Bobby Robson, Newcastle United manager when in the 3rds (aka Jim).

I have met some really awesome people here who really know how to take the piss - but overall the team spirit in the club is second to none. My goal is to get the 2nd team promoted into the next division up so we can give it to Hawridge next season! We have a fantastic captain in Chris, and remarkable team with Keith at zero pace... I would mention everyone's name, but this letter will be too long.

I have to say we need to take some of the umpires on a training course and teach them not to stick their finger up at our own players (Paul Green!). I don't think he likes me or Kash, giving us out LBW four times now in a space of three weeks. I can hear the cry "I am Trying to Make a Game of it" - 50-5 to 195! Well done though Paul for all your efforts.

Replying to Anonymous (Robin Carr) of 10th July 2003.

I am actually 46 not 44 so I am under even more pressure, but I can cope with it. Being a Wolves fan Robin you should know all about pressure situations and must know what I am going through!

Ladies Man Rennard

P.S. When are we going to see you in a pair of pads then Robin?
P.P.S. Any more of this and I will get the Fridge to have a few words with you.
P.P.P.S. Would any of you like to know why Robin is not supposed to wear shorts - if so, I have the photographic evidence!

[Andy - we have also been promised some photos of your good self. Our source remains anonymous!]

It was good to hear from Ian Watts after so many years. I recall that he and both his brothers - Dave and Roger - were all playing for Ley Hill when I first married Bill.

I have noted Ian's comments about it actually being him who scored the 100 runs in 1977 and not Dave and will put this right on the 'Roll of Honour' in the pavilion. We will also ensure that the fixtures lists are changed to reflect the correct details about the record sixth wicket partnership.

I would like to put the record straight on one minor point though. It was not Bill who was a wood turner (he was a printer in those days!) but Keith Richardson, so the home-made stumps were probably down to him!

Finally, I have noticed one or two slightly familiar looking spectators just lately (whilst I have been scoring) and have wondered who they were! Can I ask please, if you are an ex-player paying us a visit, don't be shy. Come over to the pavilion and introduce yourself. There are still some of us about who remember you!

There's no doubt about it, the pressure's on Ladies Man! Andy 'Ladies Man' Rennard has often said he'll know when he has to give up cricket - when his age is higher than his batting average. So at the ripe old age of 44 and with a batting average of just 47, the pressure's on. Just a couple more poor innings and... Well, instead of playing he'll be able to "meet" his two geriatric groupies, won't he?

Nice work on the website - good to be able to keep up to date with the Hill's progress here at uni. However, Mr Harman must have had a few too many whiskies when he did the interview - I don't recall ever having been hit clean between the eyes after dropping a catch (although Forrest runs for a catch on the road-side boundaryDuncan very nearly was at Sarratt last year - the baseball cap saved him!). A case of mistaken identity there, me thinks!

And for you, Ian Birkett, Liam and co., the traditional shouts of "run, Forrest, run!" could be heard echoing around the Ley Hill ground in as little as 3 weeks! See you all then.

Forrest (aka Ian Webb)

In the wilds of Sweden, I was subjected to the horror of watching Bargain Hunt. Then, to my utter amazement, Jon Lown appeared on the telly!
"No, no" said the wife (in Swedish of course) "that's the presenter, David Dickinson"
"Well I never! they could be twins!" said I.
Now to the serious point of this mail:
Does Jon buy his tan from the same place as David Dickinson ?
Are they related?
Come to think of it, has anyone ever seen them together?

Dickinson: convicted swindlerLown: suspected swindler

Ley Hill Past vs Ley Hill Present: what a smashing day it was, thanks to everyone who had a hand in organising it, especially Dave. Thanks for the invitation, it was most enjoyable.
Looking back it's a pity I didn't get a straight ball first off then that would have left about a dozen balls to score 5 runs, shame!. I suspect that would only have bought a bowling change earlier though.

Excellent web-site Richard, long may it last.

Best wishes to all for the rest of the season,

Regards,

Just a little note warning all of my impending return to action. I have organised a hooligan firm to follow the club reeking havoc behind the boundary rope at Ley Hill. We are armed and ready for the Hawridge scum. Long Live Ley Hill. Long Live The Firm.

Hey guys, seen the new clubhouse and repaired some of your chairs. Great to see you can now swing a big cat in the changing rooms. Mr Cherry, nice woodwork, hope this brings you all success in the future.

New Zealand V Pakistan
Craig McMillan hits a Test record 26 runs off one over as New Zealand beat Pakistan.
McMillan hit five fours and a six off leg spinner Younis Khan's first over to move from 61 to 87.
Packet - ring the poor bloke up and offer him some comforting words.
I apologise for blatantly abusing our inter club email system for a cheap gag and expect to be dealt with severely.
