July 2003
Sponsored by SUMMER BARBECUE for all Players and their families
This
is due to take place on FRIDAY 11th JULY
and everyone is invited. Plenty to
eat and plenty to drink including – (if you are unaware of the fact) a large
and very good selection of soft drinks as well as those alcoholic ones!
(I am also told that a cricket match between Fathers and Sons from the District Team will be taking place – so as well as catching up with the club gossip you will have something to watch!)
PITCHING IN
Now to a more serious subject.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
There is a marked lack of volunteers to mow the outfield and assist in marking out wickets this season. It is suspected that this could be due to lack of knowledge (ie you aren’t sure how to operate the mower) but DO NOT FEAR! The novice operator is never left alone – someone else is always present who can demonstrate to you how to use the mower and help you out if thing should go wrong.
You’d soon start complaining if the outfield wasn’t cut and the grass was several inches long but Nick and Paul cannot always be there to do it for you. We are a d.i.y. club – your help is not only expected but very necessary!
The second subject on which we need your help is to track down unclaimed trophies. Some of the winners were not at last year’s Dinner to pick up their trophies and unfortunately these now seem to have vanished! Anyone knowing the whereabouts of these please report to Matthew Harman who has suffered a complete memory loss (I wonder why?) and cannot recall what he did with them!
Ley Hill U'13s v Penn & Tylers
Green U'13s, 9th May 2003
Stephen Walter reports
The Ley Hill Colts Under
13s started off their season positively with a victory over Penn & Tylers
Green. It isn’t often that we win the toss, but for a change, we did.
We
began batting and got off to a great start with shots being played all over the
pitch, including Peter Crichton smashing a shot over mid
- wicket’s head for four, before being bowled. Chris Ghazarian
came to the middle at 20 for 2 off just 2 overs, then
followed by Peter Reynolds. Stephen Walter was then retired on 31 and Ben Ford
arrived with runs from boundaries with Felix Chamberlain, and finishing off the
innings with style. A desperate Craig Peterson never made it to the middle. Ley
Hill finished on 105 - 3, with extras getting the second highest score of 30.
It
was then our turn to bowl. Craig and Sam Harrison opened the bowling and kept
the run rate to a minimum. There was also overs each
for Ben Ford and Chris Morris. As usual, it came down to the last over, which
was bowled by Ben, and bowled very well too. They needed about 14 to win, and
got 2. Ben bowled two batsmen in 2 balls and we had won. The figures for
bowling were Craig, 4-0-10-1, Sam, 4-2-8-2, Ben, 4-0-17-2, Chris, 4-0-17-0,
Lewis Humphreys, 1-0-8-0 and Peter Reynolds, 1-0-8-0. I don’t wish to tell you
mine! Oliver Runswick kept well behind the stumps. No matter how hard he
pleaded, Peter never got a bowl!
Ley
Hill won by 12 runs!!
Man of the Match (independently
adjudicated): Several excellent individual
performances - Stephen, Sam, Ben - but surely cricket was the real winner
