LHCC 119 for 10; Soho Cricket Collective 122 for 5
Loss for Ley Hill
Sunday 22nd April was bright and sunny and a perfect opener for Sunday cricket at Ley Hill. We were visited by the Soho Cricket Collective who lost the toss. Ley Hill Captain Paul Green decided to bat, but the Ley Hill side struggled from the word “go” to score runs. Highest scorer was Jon Lown (who else?) with 24, followed by new boy Brad Norton with 23. We hope to see lots of more of Brad!!! The only other player to reach double figures was Craig Ottaway with 19. LHCC 119 for 10 from 33.2 overs. Pick of the SCC bowlers was Phil Richardson masquerading under the pseudonym Yuri who took 4 for 37; he was assisted by Malik Suleman – 2 for 18; Dave Goodman – 2 for 10 and Tom Hodder – 1 for 3.
Ley Hill’s initial response was devastating. After just 8 overs, Chris Morris had taken 3 wickets and SCC had just 19 runs on the board. Despite Chris ending up with 3 for 19 and fellow opener Craig Ottaway going for just 17 runs from his 8 overs however, the momentum could not be maintained. A score of 65 not out from Malik Suleman, ably assisted for most of it by Sam Kan (31 runs) saw SCC reach their winning target of 122 in just 28.2 overs. Other wicket takers for Ley Hill were Jamie Matyus-Flynn – 1 for 11 and Ross James – 1 for 31. Mention must also be made of our “rookie” wicket keeper – Geoff Sussum – who took 3 catches behind the stumps.
