BOXMOOR TAKE THE DOUBLE
Ley Hill 262-6; Boxmoor 263-7
Our second match against Boxmoor in two weeks - could they take the double?
Ley Hill made it as hard for Boxmoor as they could. Having won the toss, skipper Paul Green put Ley Hill into bat and openers Jon Lown and Ray McHugh enjoyed a stand of 51 before the first wicket fell. (McHugh 22 runs). Lown continued until the score reached 84 when he was run out for 39, but number 3 batsman Brad Norton and new partner at the crease Geoff Sussum both stayed put and had a magnificent 3rd wicket partnership of 105 before Sussum was out for 68 runs with the total on 189. Norton stayed put however and with the assistance of the next four batsmen, took the Ley Hill total to 262 at the end of 40 overs. Ley Hill 262-6; Norton 93 not out.
Boxmoor's response was slow until E. Shaw came to the crease. He had a 6th wicket partnership with N. Cottrell of 149 which was sufficient to take Boxmoor to victory once again. Shaw ended up on 98 and Cottrell on 68 not out. Principal bowling honours were shared by Henry Sussum and Freddie Ventham, who took 3 wickets each, although Ventham had the better economy rate.
