SUNDAY FRIENDLY SIDE OVERCOMES STROLLERS
By Eleanor Phillips
Ley Hill 250-9; Chorleywood Strollers 221-10
The heatwave continues but fortuitously skipper Paul Green won the toss and Ley Hill were able to bat. Top scorer was Number 3 batsman Brad Norton with 87, ably supported by Jamie Woodley (36); Jamie Matyus-Flynn (33); Geoff Sussum (24); Ollie Sussum (playing in his first all age cricket match) (18) and Scott Peterson (15). Highest partnership was the 4th wicket stand between Norton and Woodley of 59 and the team finished their allotted 35 overs on 250 for 9. Pick of the Chorleywood Strollers bowlers was young Milton Gibney who took 2 for 15. Mention must also be made of their wicket keeper Simon Fox who took three catches behind the stumps.
Chorleywood Strollers initially seemed a tough nut to crack for the Ley Hill bowlers, taking the score from 29 at the fall of the first wicket to 101 at the fall of the second. This was the highest partnership of the innings however and after the departure of Mark Downing (39) they lost wickets regularly, even though Simon Fox scored 72 before being caught by newbie Phil Bush off the bowling of Paul Green. In the end, they ran out of batters in the 33rd over. Paul was the best of the Ley Hill bowlers, taking 2 for 26. The game would have been over a lot quicker, however, if there had not been 41 extras to add on to the batters’ scores!
