LEY HILL COME OUT ON TOP
By Eleanor Phillips
Ley Hill 245-5; Hyde Heath 220-7
This game nearly didn’t take place. Hyde Heath arrived with just 8 players so Ley Hill loaned them Ray McHugh and Ollie Ayres. Sorry gentleman. This innings does not count in the Ley Hill averages! Hyde Heath won the toss and put Ley Hill into bat. Skipper Paul Green opened with Jon Lown and Craig Peterson – the latter making a rare Sunday appearance – and what a good decision it was. Lown went for 54 but Peterson stayed on and made exactly 100 – his third this season – before deciding to retire. Next highest scorer was Phil Bush with 33. Best of the Hyde Heath bowlers was captain Haddock with 2 for 48.
Hyde Heath set about scoring runs with determination and their first wicket did not fall until the score was on 166 when Brennan was run out by Jamie Matyus-Flynn when he was on 112. From then on, wickets fell with increasing regularity and apart from Holt (not out 12) the only other batter to reach double figures was the other opener - captain Haddock who scored 65. Best of the Ley Hill bowlers was Ben Moultrie-Ford who took 3 for 20.
