DISMAL RUN CONTINUES FOR SUNDAY FRIENDLY XI
By Eleanor Phillips
Ley Hill 129-10; Richmond Nomads 132-1
I have a distinct feeling of déjà vu writing this report as it so closely resembles so many of those that I have produced so far this season! Skipper Paul Green won the toss and decided to bat – opening with what seemed to be an extremely strong duo in Justin Hutchins and Jon Lown. Lown never got a look in until the 6th over as Hutchins kept getting a single off the last ball of an over and keeping the strike, so it wasn’t until Hutchins was caught by Gupta with the score on 17 that Lown got his chance – only to be unluckily fired out the following over leg before. 19 for 2. By this time Brad Norton had arrived at the wicket and set about the Nomads bowling in no uncertain manner – only to be given out lbw in a virtual repeat of Lown’s dismissal when he was on 46 runs from just 23 balls. The only other batters to make scores of note were Chris Morris with 33 and Henry Sussum with 15, indeed, five of the batters remained on 0. Best bowling figures for Nomads came from Naresh who took 4 for 24.
In response, Nomads set about punishing the Ley Hill bowlers whatever they did. Henry Sussum was hit for 20 from just one over and Richard Outfin suffered the most being taken for 35 runs from just 9 balls bowled. No-one seemed to have an answer to the batting of M. Singh (89 not out) and Naresh (21 not out) and Nomads won quite easily in just 15.3 overs. The sole wicket was eventually taken by Geoff Sussum (1 for 20).
