SUNDAY SIDE END SEASON WITH YET ANOTHER DEFEAT
By Eleanor Phillips
Roving Reporters 200-7; Ley Hill 142-10
Ley Hill Captain Green won the toss and decided to put Roving Reporters into bat and they made the most of their 35 overs and the fact that virtually everyone in the Ley Hill side was invited to bowl 4 overs each. Most economical bowler was Henry Sussum, who went for an economy rate of 4 runs per over. His one wicket in the match took him to a total of 30 for the season in open age matches. I haven’t had a chance to check this out, but think it must be a record for a 15 year old. Most expensive bowler was Green himself who went for 10.66 runs per over – most of the runs being hit by Number 6 batter Lewis who ended the innings on 71 not out. There was however some very good catching from the Ley Hill side, with Brad Norton (behind the stumps) taking two, and Sussum, Jamie Matyus-Flynn and Paul Eckersley one each. Eckersley was given the ball and invited to bowl for the first time ever and distinguished the event by taking a wicket.
In response, Jon Lown did his best at Number 1, staying put for nearly an hour and a half and scoring 51, but the rest of the team were unable to match this. Next highest scorer was Norton with 25, followed by three batters in the lower “teens” and the remaining six scoring well below 10 runs each. The match ended with Ley Hill in the loser’s spot as they have been on so many other occasions this season. All together a disappointing summer.
