BOVINGDON TAKE THE HONOURS IN LOCAL DERBY
Bovingdon 140-8; Ley Hill 89-10
Ley Hill can congratulate themselves on being able to put out two teams on a Sunday – most clubs are unable to find the players for one. Whilst the league XI were contending a CVSL game at home, approximately 1 mile away the Sunday Friendly XI were taking on Bovingdon.
Bovingdon won the toss, elected to bat and made 140 from their 40 overs. Top scorer was A. Vij with 38 runs. Best bowling for Ley Hill came from young Brian Sussum who took 3 wickets for 15 runs.
Unfortunately, Ley Hill’s response was almost a re-run of their innings the previous week against Boxmoor. Only two players achieved double figures (Geoff Sussum – 32; Paul Eckersley – 16) and the remaining 9 only contributed 23 runs between them. Due to the league match however, this was a team heavily weighted with junior players, all of whom demonstrated that they have ability if not strength and experience. But this will come. If indications this season are anything to go by, Ley Hill will be a force to be reckoned with in years to come with all this young talent in the wings. Best bowling from Bovingdon was M. Hart with 4 for 16.
