ANOTHER VICTORY FOR PETTS WOOD
By Eleanor Phillips
Ley Hill 149-9 (all out); Petts Wood 150-7
It’s traditional. Petts Wood tour Bucks every July and every time they win against us.
Skipper Paul Green won the toss and elected to bat. His team consisted of only 10 players - 4 adults and 6 juniors and he opened with Tom Veall and Brian Sussum. Brian went caught out second over for just 1 run, but Tom hung around and managed to score 46. It won’t be long before this young man gets his first all age 50. With 20 from Finn Cummins, 10 from Ollie Ayres, 25 from Henry Sussum (another junior showing great promise with the bat) and 5 from Eddie Sussum – not to mention a few contributions from the (very) senior players, Ley Hill ended up on149-9 (all out).
In response, Petts Wood won fairly easily by 3 wickets, but they didn’t have it all their own way. Tom Veall was the best of the Ley Hill bowlers, taking 2 for 21, followed by that golden oldie Dave Peterson who took 2 for 28. The other wickets came from (fairly old) Jamie Matyus-Flynn (1 for 17), young Henry Sussum (1 for 21) and young Brian Sussum (1 for 36).
