UNDER 14s TIE FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON
Ley Hill 79; Chorleywood 79

LHCC U14’s first game of the season, a friendly against Chorleywood, was an absolute nail biter played in good spirits and blessed with beautiful weather. Ley Hill batted first and, to be honest, it wasn’t our finest display. After Thomas was caught early, driving to the cover fielder, only Henry managed to get into double figures. Too many batsmen missing straight balls (something for our training sessions) and three stumpings during the innings. Sam H, Sumeet and Dylan deserving a shout out for some good running and calls to get some late runs. We ended on 79, which looked too small to defend.
However, as sketchy as their batting was, LHCC’s bowling and fielding was outstanding. Thomas and Henry took three wickets in the first three overs. Ben then took another before Ethan Ivory bagged a couple more with some fine, full-length deliveries. Charlie, Dylan, James and Ethan D kept things tight. A real highlight were the closing bowlers U11 Jake Veall and U12 Olly Sussum. Both took a wicket to keep Ley Hill in the hunt, and Olly bowling the final tense over with Chorleywood requiring two to win off the final ball. He kept them to one run for LHCC to tie the match. A fair result and a fantastic opener to the U14 season. Special mention to Chirag behind the stumps too. Not sure that he missed anything all game.
