U-11s ON FIRE!

Ballinger Waggoners U-13 Girls 249; Ley Hill U-11s 295
Thank you Phil Shepley for this great report:
Thursday evening saw us play the much admired Ballinger Waggoners, the team that managed to attract a number of High Wycombe’s county players this year and had some exciting school rivalry for a few members of our team.
Our Captain Jake won the toss and put Ballinger into bat, opting instead for the scorching field (it was 25 degrees). Teddy & Evelyn pegged Ballinger back before Teddy got the first wicket in the 3rd over with some great fielding from Evelyn and stumped by Nathan. Despite the heat, the fielding was quick with some great running and urgency – you could tell we were up for it. Luke and Ed were next bowlers, with Luke getting a catch out to Teddy in his 5th over. Accurate and pacey bowling limited the next batting pair to 3 off the bat and Ballinger had gone backwards by 5 runs as a result of the partnership. Next up were Jake and Tess – 3 great wickets, all bowled, with Jake taking 2 in his second over and Tess with her last ball. A few more extras but only 4 off the bat – Ballinger go back a bit further to 227. Then came Caitlin and Sasha – not the most experienced bowlers by their own admission but what does that mean when you take 3 wickets in a single over. Caitlin’s fantastic first ball was straight and true and knocked the bails flying. A little later she teased the batsman to lay up a catch for Ed and finished with another corker knocking the bails off. Ballinger back by 6 off the 2 overs. In comes Sasha with a very economical over which she topped off with a great wicket at the end, plumb bowl – OUT! All told, Ballinger pegged back.
Ballinger finished with 249, having lost 9 wickets. We had given away less than half the extras we did against Tring – that practice is clearly working. We had a total we could chase. In comes Eddy and Evelyn to bat and added 21, despite a great bowl giving Ballinger first wicket. 2 great boundaries form Teddy and some very assured batting from Evelyn. Mima and Tess are up next and adding 25, with another boundary, some great running decisions and protecting their stumps brilliantly. This was on! Luke and Ed came in and faced some tight bowling but batted excellently, adding another 29. Ed got 3 boundaries and was top scorer, while Luke displayed his usual enthusiasm for running the 17 yards we play between – some of the best calling I’ve heard all season. Sasha and Caitlin in next and added 17, including a boundary for Caitlin. They faced some proper pace bowling and defended the wicket superbly. Fast balls, schmast balls – no wickets. Last up were Jake & Nathan took 15 off the bat but the pacey bowling continued and by this time, they their eye in and took the bails off twice.
But we were there. Having taken 73 off the bat and losing just 3 wickets, with a similar level of extras as we gave away, we got to 295. A winning margin of 46 runs is our season best – a fantastic total against some very good players. Well done team – a really brilliant performance. Ballinger Who?
