LEY HILL WIN AREA FINAL OF KO CUP
By Eleanor Phillips
Ley Hill 227-5; The Lee 144-9
The Chiltern League evening KO Cup competition is organised in two separate divisions – Eastern and Western. This was the final of the Eastern Area and The Lee won the toss and put Ley Hill into bat. (Remember that these knock-outs are still played in the rather antiquated 15 x 8 ball over format).
Captain Craig Peterson opened with himself and Justin Hutchins and they put on 81 runs before the fall of Hutchins’ wicket. After a rapid 13 from Lewis Thompson, Peterson was joined at the wicket by Chris Morris – better known for his bowling – who had been put up the order for his big hitting and Morris didn’t disappoint. He scored 55 from only 20 balls before being run out. He reached his 50 in only 18 balls – just 2 balls more than the current LHCC record of 16 balls for 50 runs which has been held by Richard Lewis since 1990. His departure brought fellow fast bowler Craig Ottaway to the wicket and he scored 20 from just 9 balls before he too was run out. Best bowling came from Ben Harris who took 2 for 38.
Now it was the turn of The Lee. The entire team made a determined effort but their run rate was falling behind that of Ley Hill from the very first over, and the loss of two wickets when they had just 1 run on the board hadn’t helped. Top scorer was Jamie Line with 42. Best Ley Hill bowling came from Craig Ottaway who took 3 for 18, closely followed by Jack Thompson with 3 for 26.
Ley Hill now go forward to the overall League Final which is against Braywood and will be played at Coleshill CC on Friday 20th July, commencing at 6.00 pm.
