1sts MAKE GOOD START IN CHILTERNS LEAGUE
Ley Hill overwhelm Binfield 2nds
Binfield arrived at Ley Hill early and set up an impressive full scale training session on the outfield. Comments such as "my goodness they're keen" were heard from members of the Ley Hill 1st XI who were facing their first opponents in the Chilterns League. Binfield won the toss and put Ley Hill into bat. A first wicket stand of 46 came to an end when Justin Hutchins fell LBW to the bowling of Sculley, but Ollie Runswick (56) and Richard Clarke (86) carried on the good work until Runswick was out with the score on 145. Ben Ford showed some early season rustiness with just 1 run, but Callum Wilson hung around to make 56. Clarke caught out of the bowling of Goddard and Ley Hill were 198-4. There followed a middle order mini collapse - Dan Eckersley 0, Suranga Daluwatta 0 and Craig Ottaway 1. Then Nick Lee (20) and Chris Morris (32) arrived at the crease. By the time the last batsman Scott Peterson arrived, the score stood at 254-9. A final stand by Peterson (43) and Morris and and Ley Hill skipper Ollie Runswick felt safe in declaring on 334-9 from 48 overs. Of the Binfield bowlers, Sculley (4-66) and Goddard (4-105) took equal honours with 4 wickets each whilst Gupta mopped up the 9th wicket (1-18). Binfield lost wickets at regular intervals with the best score coming from M. Read who was 60 not out. Craig Ottaway took 2-36 and Chris Morris (1-24) and Richard Clarke (1-28) took one apiece, but the principal damage was done by Suranga Daluwatta who literally mopped up the Binfield batsmen, finishing with figures of 6-32. First win in the Chilterns League for Ley Hill.
