TWO UP TO HARPSDEN
By Eleanor Phillips
Ley Hill 119-10; Harpsden 122-6
When Harpsden visited Ley Hill earlier in the season, they won by 3 wickets. The return match was almost an action replay. The situation was not helped by the fact that half the usual 1st XI players were unavailable and some unfamiliar faces had had to be brought in from the 2nds.
Harpsden won the toss and put Ley Hill into bat. Opener Ben Moultrie-Ford went LBW second ball of the innings but partner (and skipper) Craig Peterson hung around long enough with Lewis Thompson to put on 66 before he was caught out for 13 runs. Thompson followed shortly after him for 41 and from then on, it was all downhill apart from 23 from Craig Ottaway. The remaining seven batters could only manage a total of 21 runs between them and Ley Hill were bowled out in only 32.2 of their allotment of 52 overs.
With a massive 67 overs in which to score just 120 runs, Harpsden were in no hurry to do so and scored consistently throughout their innings. The only bowler to make any impact was Lewis Thompson who took 5 wickets for 20 runs. The 6th wicket was a run out from a throw in by Callum Wilson. Game over at 4.56 pm and another early return to Ley Hill.
