UNCERTAIN START FOR LEY HILL 2nds
Downley 147-2; Ley Hill 2nds 142 all out
Downley won the toss and put Ley Hill into bat. A first wicket stand between Jon Lown and Max Lee (keeper) saw the score at 68 when Lee was caught by Downley keeper M. Bradshaw off the bowling of his son. Lee 34. Lown and Andy Rennard then continued but batting was difficult on a drying Downley pitch and Lown soon went for 12. Rennard (43) then watched the total collapse of the remainder of the Ley Hill batsmen, highest scorer of whom was Kevin Phillips with 5. Ben Lee scored 4; Ian Walter 1 and the five remaining batsmen all got ducks. Best of the Downley bowlers was J. Bradshaw with figures of 4-19. Ley Hill all out for 144. Ley Hill Captain Colin Bowden elected to open the bowling with Kevin Phillips (6 overs, 20 runs) and Paul Green (7 overs, 1 for 28) and at first these tactics seemed to work as Downley struggled to score. However, Green's wicket (B. Powell 16) meant that J. Bradshaw came to the crease and the situation changed rapidly, with Bradshaw scoring 61 not out from 55 balls. Ably supported by firstly Braganza (45) and then J. Beavis (19.n.o.), Bradshaw completed the rout of Ley Hill he had started when bowling and saw Downley home to a final score of 147-2.
