Victory eludes 2nds again
Lt. Gaddesden 242-6; Ley Hill 2nd XI 209-6
A sunny but chilly May afternoon saw well over 400 runs scored on Ley Hill Common - but it was the opposition who claimed the victory. Ley Hill skipper Iain Stewart won the toss and asked Lt. Gaddesden to bat - which they did with great enthusiasm! Openers Steve Jones and Jeremy Fennell had a first wicket stand of 139 before Joe Yerrell had Fennell caught by Ben Woodbridge for 66. Jones also fell to Yerrell 24 runs later when he was out with the top score of the match of 84. A middle order collapse by Lt. Gaddesden saw Miles Buesst come to the wicket at No 7 and he quickly took the score from 181 to 242, scoring 44 from just 23 balls. The other Ley Hill wicket takers were 2 for Michael Morris and 2 for Andy Rennard. Lt. Gaddesden 242-6 from their 40 overs. . Opener Max Lee fell LBW to Buesst with the score on only 11, but Jon Lown was then joined by Ben Woodbridge, and they took the score to 55 before Lown was bowled by Shedd. Woodbridge stayed on, and was successively partnered by Rennard (22), Bowden (44) and Stewart (11) before being caught out when he was on 78. This was in the final over and despite some fine batting, Ley Hill still needed 34 runs to win. Buesst ended up with 2 wickets, Andre Jordache with two and Ed Shedd and Steve Wise 1 each. Ley Hill 209-6 from their 40 overs. Comprehensive score card can be accessed from "Documents". STOP PRESS! Colin Bowden has now scored in excess of 16,000 runs for LHCC.
