STRONG HG SIDE COME OUT ON TOP
Holmer Green 2nds 315-9; Ley Hill 158 for 7 (Mid Bucks League Division 2)
Ley Hill 2nd XI’s new skipper – Ivan Veall – won the toss and decided to put Holmer Green into bat. And did they bat. The first four batsmen put on 254 runs alone although none of them managed to reach a century. Best batting was by J. Khan with 94 and Holmer finished their 40 overs on 315 for 9. Best of the Ley Hill bowlers was Kevin Phillips, who only came on as fifth change but promptly took 4 wickets for 38 runs off 7 overs. There were two run-outs (by Donald Petrie and Phillips) and a wicket each for Michael Morris, Petrie and Talib Hussain (making a welcome return to Ley Hill after a season elsewhere).
Ley Hill’s response was led by Jon Lown, who dug in grimly and hung on until the 32nd over for 61 runs. His best support was from young Tom Veall with 37 runs, but after 40 overs, Ley Hill could only manage a total of 158. However this was for the loss of only 7 wickets and they can take heart from the fact that they were not bowled out. Best of the Holmer Green bowlers was C. Williams with 3 for 24.
