DOUBLE WHAMMY AT HAWRIDGE & CHOLESBURY – PART 1
By Eleanor Phillips
Ley Hill 193-7; Hawridge & Cholesbury 195-6
No-one to blame – but Ley Hill found themselves visiting Cholesbury Common twice in two days! The first visit was for a Mid Bucks League Division 2 fixture and then the following day they had a Sunday friendly match there as well. This report deals with the league fixture.
Skipper Kevin Phillips won the toss and considering the extreme heat, sensibly decided that his team should bat and they got off to a good start. Openers Jon Lown and Andy Rennard scored 55 and 53 respectively and had a first wicket partnership of 100, but apart from Colin Bowden (24) and keeper Sam Martin (16), the only other batter to reach double figures was Tom Veall with 10. However, Ley Hill finished their 40 overs with a very respectable 193-7. Would it be enough? Best of the H&C bowlers was N. Jones with 3 for 27.
In response, the H&C batters scored consistently throughout the team. Top scorer was Lister with 47 not out, followed by Stannard with 33. They appeared to have very little difficulty with the Ley Hill bowling and reached their target in just 37 overs. Best of the Ley Hill bowlers was skipper Phillips with 2 for 48.
