Ley Hill skipper Paul Green won the toss and put Chorleywood Strollers into bat – and they batted extremely well. Top batter was J. Rice with 68 runs, followed by S. Fox with 60 and then a certain A. Rennard with 54. With solid contributions from the rest of the team (and the 17 wides bowled by the Ley Hill bowlers), they finished their 40 overs with 293. Best bowling came from Freddie Ventham, who took 2 wickets for 45 runs from 8 overs, which included the only two maidens bowled in this innings.
In response, opener Craig Peterson scored 91 runs before having to retire with an injury. The only other batters to achieve double figures were Henry Sussum (32), Ray McHugh (15 not out) and Freddie Ventham (11). The other six batters only managed 11 runs between them, and there were 4 ducks. The damage was done mostly by Andy Rennard who took 4 wickets for 31 runs from 6 overs, followed by J. Rice who only bowled 3 overs but took 3 wickets.
