A very steady start by Ley Hill with good, steady and consistent bowling from Jake P, Ollie Sussum, Rhys Final, Jake V and Ted Sussum had Ley Hill in a good position halfway through. However we had not reckoned on the Hawridge batsmen going large late on and they accelerated to 137 by the end, despite some excellent catching and generally very good fielding.
This was always going to be a tough ask, even if there had been a super over, and so it proved, especially as the dynamic duo of Ted and Ed Sussum managed to score zero runs and face one ball between them, Ted hitting his first ball straight to Cover Point and Ed failing to ground his bat taking a single. Ollie Sussum played some lovely shots through Extra Cover and upheld the family name but this was all to no avail and we fell short to end a good game in the dwindling light.
The progress that this group of U13, U12, U11 & U10 young cricketers has made this season is great to see and they are starting to work more and more as a unit. Credit must go to the ever patient Rob Sussum and Knocky (Ian Final) who pull this together and maintain a group of sometimes rather excitable lads in great fashion, even if some of the parents don’t always heed the standard set by the youngsters!!
