Finally, we got to play some cricket after 2 weeks of rain. The lovely setting of The Lee saw 22 enthusiastic players ready for action. Our captain Ted won the toss and elected to bowl. Having previously played for The Lee, he was looking forward to opening the bowling from his favourite end.
And so he did, taking a wicket 3rd ball. Munveer bowling second took our second wicket on his 3rd ball as well and all of a sudden, The Lee were 2 for 2. Ted’s next over destroyed them taking another 3 wickets for just 1 leg bye – technically a 3 wicket maiden. Munveer took another wicket in the 4th and they were 13 for 6. Their support team was preparing the tea early! But they did stabilise things up getting to 48 for 8 after 12 overs with wickets for Jake V and Luke. Miranda steps up and bowls 2 maiden overs, with Evelyn taking the 9th wicket. An accurate throw (by a stand in fielder – very generous of him if he meant it!) to run out their last batsman and it was all over in less than 18 overs with 58 runs.
Luke and Ted opened the batting with Ted getting 13, including 3 boundaries, off 17 deliveries before being bowled. Jake P came in next and got 8 from 9 before being caught. 27 for 2 from 6 overs – nearly half way there already! Jake V in next and a boundary off his first ball. He score 5 from 5 and was going well until given out (by his Dad no less!) stumped out of his crease. Tess got 2 and Rebecca got 7 (including a great boundary) before both being bowled and caught respectively. 48 for 5 after 12 overs. Luke stayed resilient and took 6 extras in stride , taking a quick single and then a classy boundary to seal the win.
Great work team, some real highlights. That’s our second win of the season after 2 close losses and back to the top of the table, all be it Chesham have a game in hand.
