There is very little doubt as to which team will come out on top of the Championship Division – Harpsden have only lost 1 match all season and showed their quality in this second clash with Ley Hill.
Ley Hill skipper Ben Moultrie-Ford won the toss and elected to field. Harpsden openers Blake Hogan-Keogh and Adam Birkett had an opening partnership of 240 before Adam was caught by keeper Max Lee off the bowling of Jamie Woodley, having scored 67 runs. Blake carried on – ably supported by Ben Watson – and was bowled by Chris Morris just before Harpsden declared when he had scored a magnificent 202 runs from just 132 balls.
In response, Ben opened but whilst he was scoring 48, he also watched helplessly as the next five batters came and went in rapid succession for only 19 runs! It wasn’t until Chris Morris came in at number 7 that things started looking up and as last week, the tail wagged vigorously. Chris scored 51 runs, Craig Ottaway made 25 and Jack Thompson top scored for the second match in succession with 74. Unfortunately Ley Hill could not maintain the momentum, and with the fall of Jack’s wicket, the team were all out for 247 runs. Most damaging Harpsden bowler was Abdul Khaliq who took 3 for 27, followed by Stef Franklin who also took 3 wickets but for 74 runs.
