It began to go wrong for Ley Hill’s 1st XI before the match started, when key batter Brad Norton was injured whilst warming up and had to go off to A&E, reducing the batting line up to only 10 players. (He was told he will be fine after a few days of rest).
Opener Ben Moultrie-Ford managed to stay around for most of the innings, scoring 50 runs in the process, but other batters came and went with depressing regularity. Best scorers after Ben were Chris Morris with 36 runs and Lewis Thompson with 25. However, Ley Hill’s 10 men were bowled out for just 165. The wickets were shared around the Braywood bowlers – Kamran Hafeez taking 3 for 34; Attiq Uddin 2 for 30; Mohammed Waheed 2 for 47 and Prijith Vijayan 1 for 35. Keeper Waqar Hassan ended the innings with 2 catches and a stumping.
The target to defend was only 165 and despite some heroic bowling by Ley Hill, it only took Braywood 34 overs to reach a winning figure of 168-5. Top scorer was Shahbaz Khan with 53 not out, followed by Prijith Vijayan with 48 and Syed Kazmi with 27. Syed was caught out by sub Matt Burr who had two attempts at catching the ball, but managed to hold on to it on the second try! Best of the Ley Hill bowlers was Scott Peterson with 2 for 16, followed by Lewis Thompson with 1 for 35, Craig Ottaway 1 for 44 and Chris Morris 1 for 46.
Chris has now scored more than 300 runs and taken 20 wickets so far this season. Ley Hill currently stand at 6th in the Championship division league table.
