It was a miserable afternoon at Ley Hill weatherwise, with frequent showers and strong winds, but apart from a brief interruption around the tea interval, the two teams managed to finish the match.
Bradenham had arrived with only 10 players, and Ley Hill captain for-the-day Nick Lee won the toss and decided to put them into bat. Sadly, only two batters (Robert Johnston with 35 runs and Jules Pearce with 15 runs) managed to get into double figures, the remainder only making a total of 7 runs between them, including 4 ducks. The main damage was done by Geoff Sussum who took 5 wickets for 6 runs from just 3.4 overs. Douglas Petrie took 3 wickets for 31 runs from 7 overs and Jon Humphreys the remaining wicket for 22 runs from 8 overs. Mention must also be made of the efforts of the juniors in the team (James Webster and Freddie Ventham) whose fantastic fielding resulted in 2 catches for James and 1 for Freddie . There were also 2 catches each for wicket keeper Nick Lee and Jon Humphreys.
It only took Ley Hill a mere 13.3 overs to knock off the runs needed to win without losing any wickets. Justin Hutchins ended up with 44 runs and Jon Lown with 17.
