They still lost – but what an improvement over their earlier games! WN won the toss and put Ley Hill into bat. Unfortunately both openers – brothers Henry and Ed Sussum – both went cheaply but this brought James Webster to the crease. James had a partnership of 32 with Ted Sussum followed by another good partnership of 72 with Chirag Thakur, both of them ending up at the end of the 20 overs innings not out. Chirag’s final score was 34 whilst James had top scored for the team with 82. This came off 54 balls and included 9 fours and 3 sixes. Chirag scored almost as quickly – he faced 29 balls and hit 5 fours and 1 six. Best bowling came from H. Hawtree with 3 for 17.
WN’s turn to bat – and their opener Luke Johnson – not to be outdone also scored 82 not out. He faced 52 balls and hit 13 fours and 3 sixes. The rest of the team really played the role of “supporting cast” for this class act and with Alister Lamming chipping in with 34 runs, it was not surprise when WN reached the winning target. But Ley Hill had made them fight for it – it took them 19 overs and 3 balls to get there but for the loss of only 3 wickets.
This was the last Under 18s match scheduled for 2019 and if I can ever track down a league table, I will publish it for everyone to see, but so far have not managed to find any mention of this particular league on any website.
